It’s now been three weeks since a rap song appeared anywhere in the Billboard Hot 100’s top 40, after Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “Luther” dropped out. The last time the top 40 was completely rap-free was over 35 years ago (February 2, 1990), when Biz Markie’s “Just a Friend” sat at No. 41. Right now, the highest-charting rap song is NBA YoungBoy’s “Shot Callin” at No. 48. Weird times.

First of all, congratulations to NBA player Klay Thompson. Sure, he’s a four-time NBA champion, but that’s not what we’re here to discuss. He has Megan Thee Stallion so in love with him that she’s taken a different musical direction with her new song, “Lover Girl.” She’s no longer running through the mall with your daddy; she’s rapping about getting married.
