Two monumental figures in American music passed away at 82 this month. Sly Stone, the brilliant visionary behind Sly and the Family Stone, reshaped funk and soul with boundary-smashing tracks like “Family Affair” and “Everyday People.” Brian Wilson, the sonic mastermind behind the Beach Boys, elevated pop to high art with Pet Sounds—arguably the most important album ever made. For more, this Stereogum tribute says it best: “Try to imagine what your record collection would look like if Sly Stone [and Brian Wilson] had never lived?”

BIGGEST Songs of the Week 📈

At long last, Clipse is back in full force. Nearly 15 years since their last LP, brothers Pusha T and Malice (or No Malice—unclear what he’s going by these days) are in rollout mode for their comeback album Let God Sort Em Out, dropping next month. The lead single, “Ace Trumpets,” was impressive. But the follow-up, “So Be It,” is one of the best tracks of the year.
